JORDAN — The host Jordan Hubmen rolled over the Wildcats 79-45 last Saturday afternoon. High-scoring T.J. Oakes scorched the nets for 30 points as he led the Hubmen to the win.
The Hubmen were flying high from the opening tip-off and built a 20 point lead in the first eight minutes of the game. Oakes went off for 15 points to lead the charge.
The Wildcats struggled to get their offense started against the superior size and speed of the Hubmen. Luke Traxler scored 7 points in the half. Matt Traxler completed an old fashioned three point play and Jake Traxler drained a baseline trey in the final minute of the stanza, but the Hubmen led 45-19 at the half.
“They were a tough team for us to match up against,” said Traxler. “Oakes is 6’ 5” and he can score from anywhere on the floor. Malashenko is 6’ 5” and he can jump so high that it’s almost impossible to get a shot off on the inside. We worked hard, but they were too strong for us today.”
The Wildcats continued to battle in the second half. Mitch Lang netted all 9 of his points for the game and Luke Traxler added 5 more, but the Wildcats couldn’t score often enough or make enough defensive stops to keep pace. Oakes scored another 15 points in the half as the Hubmen pulled away to a 79-45 victory.
Luke Traxler paced the Wildcat attack with 12 points. Mitch Lang tallied 9 points and 3 rebounds. The Wildcats shot 41 percent from inside the arch, 12.5 percent from the three point line and 50 percent from the free throw line. They were out-rebounded 47-15 in the loss.
“When their lead got to 20 points so early in the game, coach told us to not worry about the score,” said senior guard Jake Hertaus. “He wanted us to keep working on defense, rebound as hard as we could and make sure we stayed in our offense. The most important thing is that we never gave up.”

Wildcats defeat Alden-Conger 61-39
LE CENTER — The Wildcats turned in a good all-around performance as they defeated the visiting Alden-Conger Knights 61-39 Friday night.
The Wildcats jumped out to an early 11 point lead, led by senior forward Luke Traxler, who popped a pair of three point baskets as part of his 10 first half points.
The Knights answered with a 12-2 run over a five minute stretch, led by 8 quick points from Travis Marth, to cut the Wildcat lead to a single point.
The Wildcats regrouped and scored the final 11 points of the period to take a 33-21 halftime lead.
“We didn’t know a lot about them,” said Luke Traxler. “We heard they rebounded the ball well and that they had pretty good quickness. I was impressed with the way they moved the ball. They had us a little worried when they made that run in the first half.”
The Wildcats continued to pull away, extending their lead to 20 points eight minutes into the second half. Josh Farm and Matt Collins each netted 9 points to lead the attack. With the game in hand, coach Feddema took the opportunity to give his reserves some extended playing time.
“We ran our offense pretty well,” said Traxler. “We found the open man and our scoring was really balanced. We also did a good job of rebounding the ball tonight, which limited their second shot opportunities.”
Josh Farm paced the Wildcat offense with 14 points. Matt Collins tallied 13 points while Luke Traxler chipped in 12. Mitch Lang grabbed a team high 14 rebounds. The Wildcats shot a solid 45.2 percent inside the arch and 44.4 percent from the three point line, but a dismal 36.7 percent from the free throw line. They out-rebounded the Knights 43-27 in the win.

Mustangs stampede Wildcats 71-44
EAST CHAIN — The Wildcats went on the road to East Chain to do battle with the top ranked GHEC Mustangs last Tuesday night. The locals battled hard, but they were unable to match the superior size and depth of the Mustangs as they fell 71-44.
The Wildcats hung with the Mustangs for most of the first half, led by six points from Luke Traxler and five more from Mitch Lang. The Wildcats went cold at the end of the half and the Mustangs answered with a 14-3 run in the final four minutes to open up a 39-19 lead.
“They have a really good team,” said senior co-captain Mitch Lang. “They use Tim Garry, their big center, really well. They move the ball and run the floor well and they’re a well disciplined team. It’s easy to see why they’re ranked No. 1.”
The Mustangs started the second half with an 18-3 run, but the Wildcats continued to battle. Lang scored 10 more points in the second half and Josh Farm added 5 more to help cut the Mustang lead from 35 points to 27 points in the final 12 minutes.
“We played pretty well for most of the game,” said Lang. “We worked hard on defense and stayed patient in our offense, trying to get the best shots we could. Those two runs they made were killers, though. It was hard to come back after they built up that big lead.”
Lang paced the Wildcats with 15 points and 5 rebounds. Luke Traxler recorded 7 points and a rebound in the losing effort. The Wildcats shot 38 percent from inside the arch, failed to convert any of their 5 three point attempts and shot 63 percent from the free throw line. The Mustangs held a narrow 31-28 rebounding edge. Le Center: 19 25 44
