2009 is history
This is the last paper for 2009 the past 365 days went by way to fast. The City of Le Center saw a lot of changes over the past year. In January Drug Express closed leaving the community without a drug store. In March the Guardian Inn opened their doors for business giving Le Center their first motel. The school district had to make $150,000 in budget cuts. This left our school district without a high school choir program or a family consumer science (home-ec) program. The district also cut the PALS program.

In June Barb Krohn was recognized for 30 years of service to the Volunteer Ambulance Department. Chris Collins retired from the Fire Department. St. Paul Lutheran celebrated 125 years. St. Henry celebrated 150 years in July.

Ground was broken for a new assisted living facility and Cutie P’ Tutti opened in the former antique shop. A new mortgage branch opened, Marketplace Home Mortgage LLC by Brooks O’Keefe the Senior Mortgage Consultant.

2010 looks to be a busy year for Le Center with Minnesota Street the main construction project, hopefully two new food establishments opening (both downtown) as well as a dollar store.

The residents of Le Center and Cleveland pulled together in support of are residents in need, with monetary donations, words of encouragement and supported numerous fund-raisers.

The economy hit many local families this past season. Some of those families are still going to be struggling in 2010 so remember to donate when you can to the local food shelf. The food shelf donations were down 32% this past year but the usage was up by 15 families a month an average of 105 families.

I wish each and everyone of you a wonderful New Year. May your life be blessed by those dear to you and strangers passing through in 2010.
