School thefts keep police busy

LE CENTER – Two separate incidents of items taken from school lockers are under investigation by the Le Center Police Department.
On the morning of Jan. 17 the department received a report of a wallet taken from the school's locker room. The incident occurred sometime between 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 16. The school's surveillance video is being examined to see who may have been in the halls between that time.
On Jan. 18 police were informed four pairs of athletic shoes were taken from the girls' locker room at the high school. The theft occurred sometime between 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 17 and 2 p.m. on Jan. 18. Shoes were taken from three different lockers and have an estimated value of over $400. None of the lockers were locked. Police noted the locker room was used by basketball players from Maple River on the night of Jan. 17.
The department responded to a few other calls that same week.
Jan. 13
• An officer was dispatched to the 300 block of N. Park Ave. at 4:25 p.m. for a report of two stray dogs at a residence. The dogs' owner arrived at the scene to collect the dogs and the officer cleared.
Jan. 17
• At 10:46 a.m. police received a report of marijuana odor coming from an apartment at Centennial Plaza. The responding officer was unable to detect any suspicious odor. The incident remains under investigation.
• A caller reported he had found a stray cat at his residence. The caller said he had been keeping the cat for about a week, but it wasn't getting along with his other cat and he wished to have it removed. The cat was taken for boarding for the owner to claim. The cat is black with white muzzle, chest and paws.
